MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Most massages stimulate the movement of lymph as a matter of course, but Manual Lymphatic Drainage provides external pressure specifically to promote this flow. Totana practices the Vodder Technique developed in France in the 1930s. It is very light, pulsing or pumping movement which has a lulling, relaxing effect on the autonomic nervous system and directly facilitates lymph movement and drainage. It is effective in the treatment of Fibromyalgia, sinusitis, burns, scars, arthritis, as well as the more common usage for oedema and sprains.
Most treatments are at least one hour. As the fluid is just under the skin, the client needs to be undressed. Towels are used to retain modesty and as with any therapy the client's wishes for privacy are always respected.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage can also be incorporated into a message session.
This therapy is surprisingly calming as the parasympathetic nervous system is reactivated (ie resets the nervous system back to 'cruise' mode!).
